V4T Controller Frequently Asked Questions

Q How do I change set point?
A Actual process variables appear in the upper display. Set point appears in the lower display. Use the up/down keys to adjust the set point in the lower display.

Q What do the dashes mean in the upper display?
A Dashes indicate a system or control error. See the Troubleshooting, Alarms and Errors section of the user's manual.

Q Why can't I change my set point over 100?
A The control is in manual mode. The 100 represents 100 percent power. Push the "infinity" key twice to transfer to auto mode. If - - - - is in the upper display see the Troubleshooting, Alarms and Error section of the user's manual.

Q How do I calibrate my controller? Where is the procedure?
A See the calibration section of the user's manual. The V4T is calibrated when it leaves the factory.

Q How do I change degrees F to degrees C?
A Go to the set up menu, C_F parameter, to make your changes.

Q Why can't I get at any of the prompts?
A The control may be configured for lock out. See the user's manual, LOC parameter in the setup menu.

Q Why does my set point read 0?
A If an error occurs the control will revert to manual mode, - - - - appears in the upper display and the % LED is lit. The 0 in the lower display means 0 percent power. See the Troubleshooting, and Error codes section of the user's manual.

Q Why is my controller not controlling at set point? What can I do to fix it?
A If the controller is not controlling properly, the PID value needs to be adjusted. The easiest way to do this is to use the autotune section of the user's manual.

Q How do I wire an RTD; what is the colour code?
A A three-wire RTD sensor will have two wires the same colour. These are the S2 and S3 connections. The odd colour wire is the S1 connection.

Q Why do I have dashes in the upper display and zero on the lower display?
A This indicates an system error. The lower display will represent power in percent, NOT temperature. You many manually control the power output by using the arrow keys.

Q What is error code 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7?
A When a system error occurs, the upper display will show an error code for a moment and then switch to dashes. Pressing the Auto/Man key will display the error code. See the user's manual for a description of these codes. Most codes are the result of sensor failures.

Q Why does the temperature on the display go down when the heat is turned on?
A The sensor is wired in reverse. Check your sensor connections.

Q Why does the output light flash when I am above or at set point?
A The controller uses a PID function to calculate the necessary power requirements to maintain the process value. This is normal operation.

Q Why doesn't the controller ever reach set point?
A The controller must be "Tuned" to your system. See the section on Auto/Manual Tuning in the user's manual.

Q How do I adjust the set point?
A Press the arrow keys to increase or decrease the set point. The controller will go to the new value.

Q What is the input sampling rate?
A The controller samples the inputs at 2.5 times each second.

Q Why is there no voltage output on the SSR or Mechanical Relay outputs?
A The controller does not source the voltage on these outputs. You must connect the appropiate values to be switched to your load. See the wiring section of the user's manual.

Q Why can't I change set point?
A The controller has been configured to "lock" the operator from making changes. Reverse the procedure that configured the lockout.

Q How can I set the controller to on-off mode?
A Configure the proportional band to zero. The controller will operate in the on-off mode for both outputs when PB1=0.
